Teaser Casting

What’s Going on Here?

I’m done translating Yuushibu volume 1, which was the last of those projects that I promised to translate, and if I promise stuff, I see it through. That is, if I am able to do it in the first place, HataMaou or Netoge were just over my head at the time, so I had to drop them, but I announced that as soon as it dawned on me. Well, and I simply dropped the Baka-Tsuki app translation (English to German) ’cause it was a pain to do (sorry, Lery!); and ’cause hardly anyone would’ve cared in the first place.

Anyway, I’ve nothing to translate anymore! Yet I don’t have the time to throw myself at 250 pages (average light novel thickness) and doing legal gray zone activities don’t really tickle my fancy anymore (it’s not even a gray zone, it’s just dark). Personally, I really enjoy the process of translating and editing, and would like to keep it up one way or another. Hence, I’ve been doing teasers from time to time which are neither big enough to make any company president’s head explode, nor too much work for me to handle, yet can give nice insight into a novel and its contents.

To kill two birds with one stone I figured I might ask you (whoever you are) for stuff you might want to have teased or are interested in reading a bit into.

A teaser would consist of anything between five to thirty translated and edited pages by yours truely (which means it’ll be fairly fast (probably!)) – depending on how awful/fun it is to do. Of course this doesn’t go with some rules which might be extended/altered when changes hit me. And I know the rules are mostly stuff you can’t possibly know, it’s just to clarify that I won’t indiscriminately do anything.

Suggestions go into the comment area. If there’s a certain part you’re interested in, please state which. Spread the word!

Rules

  1. The novel itself must at least look okay-ish to me and somewhat fit my taste. I refuse to do stuff that annoys me.
Bad example: Haganai (yes, I know, sorry), drama/psychological stuff.
  2. I must’ve already read it, or it must be the first volume (which would be my fav, I like trying new stuff), or it picks up after an anime that I’ve already watched. I don’t like translating without context/into the blue.
      Bad example: Do OreShura 10.
Since you’d be pretty much guessing what stuff I’ve already seen/read and what not, you’re better off picking new series or series that don’t have any translation at all.
  3. There must be a decent raw available. Blurry and/or low-res scans give me a headache.
Bad example: That Fafnir 1 raw I tried ages ago.

Generally, it’s better to suggest stuff that’s new and you’ve only seen the cover of. Like, “oh, I wonder what this series is all about!”

If you’ve read it somewhere else already, chances are it’s already been teased or I’d have to pick up from right in the middle of the series, which I don’t wanna (see Rule #2). Reading a (bunch of) volume(s) just so that I can translate a couple of pages to tease what’s going to happen next doesn’t make much sense, wouldn’t you agree?

Another good idea would be to check what novels I’ve already reviewed since I tend to do that for everything I’ve read, so chances are, for example, that I’ll tease something from Shomin Sample 7 that might interest you.

Alright, let’s see if and how this goes! Oh, and if I happen to get a bunch of suggestions I’m interested in, I’ll simply let you guys decide on Twitter by vote what I’ll do (or maybe by some other means, this is all just a tryout). Remember, it won’t be the whole volume, not by far.

  1. Hi, if you are interested in any of the below, you can do a teaser or maybe translate the series? XD

Eirun Last Code ~Kakuu Sekai Yori Senjou e~
    Senketsu no Elf 2
    F-Rank no Boukun
    Dangan Ronpa/Zero
    Sekai no Kiki wa Mekurumeku!
    Usotsuki Mii-kun to Kowareta Maa-chan
Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai
Shindemo Shindemo Shindemo Shindemo Suki ni Naru to Kanojo wa Itta
Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasuka? Isogashii desuka? Sukutte Moratte Ii desuka?
    Colosseum
    Next Life
    Tada, Sore Dake de Yokattandesu
    Dowl Masters

    Thank you!

    • Looking through those will take me a bit. I can rule out Usotsuki and Dangan Ronpa right away, though.

Edit: Welp, I looked through them all and they’ve either been teased on BT already or are drama/psychological which isn’t what I’d like to spend my free time on, sorry.

I’ll keep that dirty joke thingy in mind for after I’ve seen the anime, surprised no one picked it up yet, though.

Edit2: Found it, “Dirty Joke”‘s been teased on BT already too. =D

    • Well, it’d be in the same zone that modifications for games are in: it’s alright as long as you don’t try to earn money with it. But an interesting idea nonetheless. Since they’re side stories, I doubt people really care though.

Edit: Meh, the OniAi “sidestories” I got are mere commentary. I skimmed a bit through your stuff, but not having read Rokujouma I kinda feel like I don’t know what’s going on, if that makes sense. Hmmm, the sidestory idea sits quite well with me, though. Let’s see what I can do about it.

  2. Just a question, you said you were done translating Yuushibu where would i find it? i really want to read translated vol 1

  3. Seiken Tsukai No World Break
Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai.
    Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko
I think these are good ones to look at and see if any interest you.

    • Isn’t HenNeko being translated already? H ga Dekinai is rather weird, if I had to put my finger on it, I’d say that people saw the anime and don’t really care for anything more (it’s already been teased on BT, too). Gonna see about World Break, though.

Edit: World Break’s already been translated on BT, so rule 2 applies here. 🙁

  4. Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou
    Kämpfer

I enjoyed watching the anime for these and hope they interest you as well.

also i dont suppose there is a chance yuushibu would be a long term project for you would it?

    • I’ve no time to take on major translation projects, it’d basically eat up all the free time I’ve left.

I’ll look into Kämpfer, I kinda liked that one too. Seems like volume 1 has been translated (somewhat), so I’ll check out the first few pages of volume 2.

(Note: kinda hard to find a raw for something this old)

  5. Hi. Since I’m here, might as well suggest something.

First, don’t worry about Rokujouma. The short stories are published as collection of short stories in between main story arcs, so Warnis will eventually get to it.

Now then, you seem to like comedy (I love comedy too), so I suggest two novels I had noted down to read when I would have the necessary knowledge to read in japanese:
    Eiyuu Toshi no Bakadomo
Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu he

Even if you don’t translate either of them, if you read them, a review or just an opinion would be quite welcome.

    Thanks!

    • “Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu he” is already on my list and I was planning on reading it after “NGNL,” might as well put a bunch of pages into English then. “Eiyuu Toshi no Bakadomo”‘s noted but seemingly poorly received on Amazon (not that I care, just sayin’).

Thanks for the tips, good luck with your Japanese studies!
