The Sisters’ Underwear Situation – Volume 1 – Prologue

NOTE: Incomplete translations are marked as “teaser.” Complete translations aren’t. If I feel like it, I’ll further the translation. If I don’t, I won’t. Hence, “whimsical.” Stuff may be dropped or continued, or both, or alternately, at any second without notice.

First things first, as mentioned above, this thing’s called teaser but by my definition – the complete prologue will be translated (it’s short anyway).

I’m in the mood for a translation hence I translate (that’s why the category’s called “whimsical” to begin with). The teaser suggestions so far haven’t been all too fruitful, so I simply went with a fairly new light novel series that shouldn’t have a translation yet – if I’m erring here, let me know and I can render my efforts to naught.

In the following a wordy explanation on the series’ name and why I translated it the way I did, if you don’t care, skip the paragraph. Anyway, the name’s “My Sisters’ Underwear Situation” (or not, see first edit below). Now the hardcore weebs among you ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) might throw a tantrum saying: “The title says ‘My Big and Little Sister’s Underwear Situation!” You might know that I’m not a big fan of calling siblings by their degree of kinship since it’s not what English-speaking people usually do, and let’s be honest, the literal title sounds double time weird. Off the top of my head, I can only think of one instance when a big or little brother/sister would actually be called that and that’s when there’s a pressing need to differentiate between them, “My big brother’s a mechanic, my little brother’s studying engineering,” and I don’t think such a need is present with the title. As another possibility, the furigana states “her” which would lead us to “Her and Her Underwear Situation;” great. Last but not least, “shitagi” (underwear) and “jijou” (circumstances, situation) don’t have any specific meaning, as far as I know, hence I simply threw the words together, which might change once I know what this novel is about.

For the time being, you’ll get the illustrations and subtitles (kinda) for what they’re saying. They’ll stay for now so that you can get a mental image of how the characters look like, but I might delete the illustrations at some point since I don’t fancy publishing those in general, just a reminder. The translation of the prologue will follow today or tomorrow, so check back for that.

Please don’t post this anywhere else, simply relink to this post and everyone’ll have the most-recent version at all times.

EDIT: After having read a bit into it, it’s pretty clear that the protagonist is not related to the “sisters” (boo). Now this leaves me with three alternatives and hence in a bit of a bind:

1) Sisters’ Underwear Situation (sounds like they’re nuns)
2) The Sisters’ Underwear Situation (hurts my ears)
3) Older and Younger Sisters’ Underwear Situation (hurts my brain, also is kinda misleading since it gives the impression of being about older and younger sisters in general)

I’m going with 2 which is as appealing as “gyaru”-style girls, but “between a rock and a hard place” yadayada.

EDIT 2: Prologue’s done. Have fun reading!

      • Haha, yeah. Sadly, those “sisters” aren’t related to him, so unless I warp the title into something that hasn’t much in common with the original title anymore, it ends up being the crinchy mess that I’ve (had to) settle(d) with. ;P
